Spring is here our wild daffodils are out! 

New Nest boxes have been installed ready for the Pied Flycatcher nesting Season.

The Older boxes have also been relocated a bit Higher up the trees also to stop predation from Feral cats. It is hoped that we will have a good song bird nesting season this year. We have also got control of the Grey Squirrel Population reducing there number with in our wood which should also reduce Squirrel tree damage & Song Bird Nest Predation from squirrels.

Also New this season we have installed 10 Trial Dormouse Nest Tubes to see if we have the endangered Dormice living in the wood. If we do then we may consider getting Advice from a local Dormouse group in monitoring and providing nest boxes to protect these elusive little animals.

We have been given by a Neighbouring woodland owner over 100+ Hazel saplings which we have dotted around the woodland and hedgerow which will help provide food and habitat in the future for Dormice and provide us with coppicing materials.



Our Pest Controller Rob has helped me install an Archery net back stop so that both Rob & I can enjoy some archery & Slingshot sport at the woodland safely not too far from our picnic bench. We just have to sort a target area for our targets to stand in front of our backstop a bit better.

We have quite a few Wildlife monitoring Surveys to do soon & other Projects to do at the

 Woodland. We will be installing the Hedgehog Boxes back in the Woodland for the Autumn after repairing the roofs of the boxes & Tracey will be installing two New Hedgehog boxes once she has built them.

Big Butterfly Count

Narrows Wood July Big Butterfly Count   Each year we Plan to do a Big Butterfly Count at our Small Wood each July. We will pass data collected on to the Butterfly Conservation Group. 21/07/2023 We spotted 4 Species of Butterfly at our Woodland Site, 5 butterflies in our 15 min survey count.  Next year we are hoping to make this an annual Social event with friends & family towards the end of July time. By then the Horseflies should not be a problem as they are active from Early June to July. Then End of July is also a good time to collect the Wild Raspberries at the woods too. 2023 Autumn Tree Planting

 2023 Autumn Tree Planting Tree Planting Season is here! This October we are Planing to Plant 255 new trees at our Woodland. 180 Trees to improve our Trackside Hedgerows & to replace the Beech trees that failed to grow along our woodland edge. We will be planting 30 blackthorn, 20 dog rose, 30 crab apple, 30 goat willow, 30 rowan & 40 Hawthorn. This will hopefully help improve the biodiversity of our woodland, creating corridors for wildlife between the farmland and the woodland. As well as the new Hedgerow planting we have also planed to install new coppice planting within our woodland giving Us a crop of new Hazel coppice & Sweet Chestnut Coppice. Last year we experimented with the planting of 5 Sweet Chestnut trees and 3 have survived giving Us confidence in expanding our Experimental crop of Sweet Chestnut planting.
