Private Air Rifle Range 







May 2023 Our Private Shooting Range has now been installed at our site.

The Shooting range will give Us a private Safe place to Practice Air Gun / Rifle Target shooting.

Here we will be able to enjoy the sport of target shooting. 

Air guns can be Dangerous so Safety glasses are to be warn at all timed while in the shooting area. 

BBs & Pellets can injury or even kill !

Many of the other Woodland Owners around Cwm Gilla Wood also have there own Shooting Ranges as each woodland owner own's the Sporting & Mineral Rights to there part of Cwmgilla wood.

So we have also decided to Join in the Sport of Target Shooting and set our own Shooting Range! 
After having a go at one of our Neighbours Shooting Ranges.

Great fun & also practice good for Pest control controlling the Grey Squirrels as part of our Management of our Coppice Wood. 

Grey Squirrels not only damage the trees but also cause egg predation by steeling eggs from birds nests for food.

As we are also a Conservation site the protecting Native Birds that are on the Red & Amber list control of Grey Squirrels numbers is a Priority.

Grey Squirrels are an invasive none native species of Squirrel.

It is hoped that by controlling there numbers or even eradicating them from our native woodlands will allow the re introduction of the Red Squirrel. 

Training with an Air Rifle to make a clean humane quick dispatch of the Grey Squirrel is important as it must be done quickly & Cleanly, so there is no suffering of the Animal.

New Marker posts now installed at the Range Today.
Had a go with the BB Gun & Air Gun after installation of the Posts.
Also the Horse Flies were out in force & Biting Ouch!

Just finished making a Target board for A4 printed Targets.

Just have to paint it up and attach it to the Backstop Board.


21/07/23
New Target Board installed on the Shooting Range Backstop.
We have also built a Can stand for Plinking with the BB gun at our Range.

Those found committing these offences will be Prosecuted!

Armed Trespass is also a Serious Criminal Offence which carries a prison sentence!

2023 Autumn Tree Planting

 2023 Autumn Tree Planting Tree Planting Season is here! This October we are Planing to Plant 255 new trees at our Woodland. 180 Trees to improve our Trackside Hedgerows & to replace the Beech trees that failed to grow along our woodland edge. We will be planting 30 blackthorn, 20 dog rose, 30 crab apple, 30 goat willow, 30 rowan & 40 Hawthorn. This will hopefully help improve the biodiversity of our woodland, creating corridors for wildlife between the farmland and the woodland. As well as the new Hedgerow planting we have also planed to install new coppice planting within our woodland giving Us a crop of new Hazel coppice & Sweet Chestnut Coppice. Last year we experimented with the planting of 5 Sweet Chestnut trees and 3 have survived giving Us confidence in expanding our Experimental crop of Sweet Chestnut planting. This year we plan to plant another 15 within our woodland. Sweet Chestnut take a long time before they will produce nuts, around 25 years before they start

Bat Roost Project

 Bat Roost Project We will be installing 3 Bat Boxes on some of our Sessile Oak trees to provide some additional roosting spots around our Woodland. There are currently many old oak trees around our wood with cracks, holes & crevice's that may provide roost spots for bats. By providing additional man made boxes it is hoped that we can add additional places to the Natural environment for roosting bats. Once we have installed the boxes they will be permanently in stalled and not touched as Bats are legally protected by law. We will be able to monitor our boxes via Non-invasive means by watching with night vision binoculars bats coming in and out of the roost. By using bat detectors & also via Trail cams placed on Opposite trees. All these methods are Non intrusive and valuable way of monitoring bats.
